Free For All Friday No 288

I've seen many people are slimming down their Filofax and streamlining sections lately. Some people are lightening their load for summer, others seem to have reached a critical mass and are now going in the opposite direction.

Are you streamlining your Filofax lately?

As always on Fridays, feel free to discuss and/ or ask anything ring-binder related!

  1. I'm in the middle of a radical streamlining at the moment. One of the huge benefits of operating a GTD system is that it requires so little 'stuff' to keep track of it, being mainly an elaborate series of connected lists, so I've managed to reduce my binder contents by about 50% over the last few weeks. Everything now fits very comfortably into my previously rather overstuffed Hampstead, so I'm a happy camper.

  2. With every website now requiring to have a different and far more complex set of passwords, I've recently removed my password reminder sheets from the Personal Filofax I carry all the time. I've put the pages in to a Slimline that will be kept at home. And I will be storing just the Username/Email address used on each site in it.

I'm now using 1Password to generate/store passwords on my iMac/iPad/iPhone these all sync together via iCloud. But if I lost all the passwords or some of them I could recover from it using the 'Lost Password' scheme on all sites by referring to my paper sheets as to which email address or user name I've used for a particular site.

This hasn't slimmed down my Filofax that much but every bit helps I guess.

  3. I noticed last night that I have some papers that need removed. Not a radical change, but when I am on vacation this week I will sit and really look at every page that is in there.

  4. David, you kindly pointed out that Filofax France has the diary format I have been looking for. I tried to order it but seems to me you can only deliver to a french address. Am I missing something? Any tips on ordering from abroad?
    Thanks

    1. I think you must be. I've ordered several times from FF France and I live in Somerset UK. Assuming you're in the UK you shouldn't have any problem. I'd try again. I can't comment on whether they ship to other countries I'm afraid, maybe Monsieur Morton can advise!

Yes as far as I know they still ship to anywhere in the world:

  5. My recent purge has been mainly in my Projects section where I put everything and it just sat. So, I am now only putting the actively working projects in my Filo I carry with me, and the rest are archived in another filo that stays home. As one is finished, I move another from the archive into the active section. It has reduced the "pudginess" of my Filo to managable levels!

And changing from separate topic dividers to using the A-Z dividers for topic dividers has made it easier for me to organize also, which strangely has slimmed down the Filo as well.

  7. My filofax was so stuffed I could barely turn the pages! (I know that's really bad!). So I removed a lot of stuff such as my school section since I am graduated, I archived all the old notes I wasn't using, I had quite a few articles that I printed to read later and removed those as well, I also took out my dividers and replaced them with tabs as needed to reduce the amount of sheets. And now I can easily turn my pages! But it is still pretty stuffed! Filofax needs to start making 35 and 40 mm A5s!

  8. Yes and no to the streamlining....I merged my planner and wallet together which made it a little fatter...
With a Hubby, teenager, almost teenager, dog and cat our summer months are almost busier than the rest of the year. I did analyze my day on two pages and realized that I could get by with a day on one page, but I did not like any of the pre-made inserts as I like to journal each day so I created my own. I was able to reduce the bulk in my daily section by half, but then I turned around and added another month of daily pages since I had the room....
I also moved out of my personal sized Holborn and into a Daytimer Malibu which has quite a few pockets, but bigger rings.

  9. I enjoy paging through mine and removing what I can, but every time I do that I think of something else that I really want to add. I struggle to keep it skinny enough to put in my phone.

  11. Slightly off topic but wanted to note: I am enjoying the cotton cream paper. I keep my book in the kitchen at home and at work, so I was concerned about cooking bits and such messing up my papers. I am happy to say that a quick dusting of my hands with a dish towel is all that's required to keep my pages looking pristine.
